Jonathan Brown, Technical Director

Jonathan graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a Masters in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. During this time, he worked in a range of industries including defence, commercial, heavy lift, and oil and gas both in Scotland and China. Since, he has worked for BAE Systems on the Graduate Development Framework, gaining both design and commissioning experience. Following this, he joined Malin Group as a Technical Specialist – Naval Architect to work on developing Malin's long term and concept projects before becoming the Engineering Director of Malin Marine Consultants. In 2020 he was selected as a Future Maritime Leader by the Global Maritime Forum.

Staurt Barrie, Nuclear safety director

Joining MMC after a distinguished 23½-year career in the Royal Navy, Stuart brings extensive leadership and operational experience across some of the UK's most critical defence infrastructure. He concluded his naval service as Safety Director at HMNB Clyde, the Home of the UKs Submarine Service, with responsibility for nuclear, explosive and conventional safety, assurance and regulatory compliance. Alongside qualifications in Engineering, Engineering and Project Management, and Defence Studies, Stuart has extensive experience in operations, project and programme delivery, training, assurance, and change management. In his new role at MMC, Stuart will draw on this wealth of experience to support existing projects, including Euston, while helping to drive growth across the business and identify new opportunities within the nuclear sector.

beth robertson, project manager

Beth joins the Malin Marine Consultants team, bringing extensive project management experience, gathered across several industries including pharmaceutical wholesale, NPI and construction. Most recently Beth has overseen the construction of two aseptic oncology facilities located in Luton and Belfast. Having worked with diverse teams and clients, Beth is poised to cement existing client and stakeholder relationships, whilst creating new business development opportunities. Beth’s skills and experience will enable her to support the team in efficient project delivery, providing pioneering solutions and innovative design solutions for the marine sector.

Calum Taylor, Graduate Marine Systems Engineer

Calum joins Malin Marine Consultants as a Graduate Marine Systems Engineer, with a background in maritime and defence sectors. He holds an MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, where his master’s research focused on composite repair and maintenance techniques for Royal Navy vessels. Prior to MMC, he gained experience at Babcock International’s Rosyth facility working on surface ship projects. With a passion for marine systems engineering and a drive to develop innovative solutions for the maritime industry, Calum is a welcome addition to the MMC team.

Michael Njoku, naval architect

An experienced Naval Architect, with a diverse portfolio of projects spanning commercial vessels and defence scopes, Michael is a welcome addition to our Malin Marine Consultants business unit. Prior to joining MMC, Michael worked for BAE in Portsmouth as a Structural Design Engineer, demonstrating his expertise across a variety of projects, with a particular skill in modelling, finite element analysis (FEA) and design. He is particularly interested in new technologies, their impact on and integration with design and modelling principles and how to encourage the next generation in getting involved through all things STEM.

Joy Merriweather, graduate engineer

Joy joined Malin Marine Consultants in 2025 in the position of Graduate Engineer. She has a degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from Strathclyde University, and previously worked on wind turbine research within Strathclyde's Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department. Joy has a real passion for learning and growing her expertise across a variety of areas, which she will apply to her work involving both mechanical and electrical disciplines.
