Malin Augustea: Coming together to deliver the CD01
the CD01 will be one of the largest barges in Europe, with capacity to submerge and load vessels and cargo with draughts of up to 12m and 137m in length.
Malin Abram, heavy lift specialists and part of the Malin Group, are delighted to have created a new partnership with Augustea, to jumboize one of their barges at the Hat-Sen shipyard in Turkey. Now complete, the 137m barge is now en route, to return to the Clyde later this year. This will offer a domestic capability not seen in Scotland for decades. The Group have taken joint ownership of the semi-submersible launch barge, which is now being specifically lengthened and strengthened to prepare for its new role. The barge will initially be used for the launch of the Royal Navy’s new Type 26 vessels, under a contract with BAE Systems, and will also be available to charter for other marine engineering projects.
The barge is a joint venture between the Malin Abram and Augustea and, once modified, will be one of the largest in Europe and it can submerge to load vessels and cargo with draughts of up to 12m and over 137m in length.
It will be based on the Clyde between projects and brings exciting new capability to the area. Due to its highly versatile design, it can be used for both deep sea transport of large vessels and cargo, but also offers exciting new docking capabilities to the local area. It is expected this new service will catalyse further opportunities for the wider supply chain and put the West Coast of Scotland on the map as a place of business for major marine engineering projects.
With a length of 137 metres and deck area of 4,200 square meters, the barge brings an enviable resource to the banks of the River Clyde.
