james bowie, managing director

James Bowie began his career as a summer intern with Malin Abram, before gaining a degree in Naval Architecture and joining full time as a graduate. Having successfully worked through the graduate programme and Naval Architect stream he now holds the Managing Director position in Malin Abram. James has experience in a variety of projects from marine heavy lift transportation to design and manufacture of bespoke jigs and has been involved in major site operations worldwide.

chris cairns, commercial director

Chris joined the team in 2016 and is the Commercial Director for Malin Abram. Chris graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2011 with a degree in Quantity Surveying and spent 5 years with a worldwide oil and gas subsea contractor in Aberdeen, where he managed numerous high-profile tenders for major oil and gas projects. In his current role, Chris is responsible for overseeing Malin Abram tendering activity and developing the Abram client base and creating strong customer relationships. Chris and his team are the focal point for receipt of ITT documentation and collation of specific tender material.

helenor fisher, director of Business Development & Marketing

Helenor comes to the Malin Group with over 15 years of business development and marketing experience, with a diverse range of skills spanning brand development, copywriting, design, digital and website development and marketing strategy. Prior to joining the Malin Group, she worked extensively in the Higher Education sector, involving projects on a worldwide scale. Since joining the group, she has increased brand awareness, through the creation of digital and hard copy materials, combined with successful targeted advertising and content marketing, teamed with strategic business development actives.

gordon sloan, technical director

Gordon Sloan is a Time Served Engineer with extensive experience in the fields of heavy engineering (Motherwell Bridge Group) & marine operations (Henry Abram & Sons Limited). His specific areas of his experience include: Structural Design, Heavy Lift Operations, Transportation (Road & Marine), Seafastening Design, Marine Superintendence, Marine Procedures & Operations. His extensive experience has been gained travelling throughout the UK and overseas experience throughout Europe, Israel and Canada.

james parkhouse, Programme manager

James is a Chartered Engineer and Naval Architect with over 20 years in the maritime industry. Prior to joining the Malin Group James has worked within ship building, ship repair, maritime regulation and Port Operations sectors within the UK, Europe and the Far East. This has given James a diverse range of technical, project and contract management experience. James’ primary role within Malin Abram is programme management for our major transport projects and the CD01 Barge programme.

alan mundie, senior project engineer

Alan joined the Malin Abram team as a Senior Project Engineer in 2021. He has a background in the Offshore Renewables, Ship Management, and Oil and Gas sectors. Prior to joining Malin, he has been involved in a range of projects, including the transport and installation of floating wind turbines, asset management of FPSO’s, and providing warranty services for offshore transportation. During his time with Malin he has been involved in a variety of short sea shipping projects and latterly focused on the delivery of major transportation projects which support the UK Defence Sector.

david cooper, senior naval architect

David joined Malin Group in 2018, after graduating from the University of Strathclyde with a Masters Degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. Since Starting with Malin Group, David has played a key role as Naval Architect on many of our major transport projects including the Load Out and Float Off of Offshore Patrol Vessels, producing all calculations and documentation and assisting with site operations. With expertise across stability analysis and Load Out and Float Off operations, alongside a broad understanding of various marine operations, David has more recently been involved in modification of the CD01 barge and engineering required for the ROFO of HMS Glasgow, and managing the Float Off Operation as Barge Master. David is currently lead engineer responsible for the upcoming Type 31 ROFO as well as concept engineering and 3rd party review on a range of global ROFO projects.

praveen prabhakaran, project engineer

Praveen, a seasoned heavy lift and transportation specialist, graduated from the University of Calicut in 2007 with a B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering. With extensive experience gathered in the oil and gas sector, having delivered a range of ODC movement and load-out projects in South east Asia, he holds specialist expertise on the use of self propelled modular trailers (SPMTs) and skidding equipment. Praveen joined the Malin Abram team in 2024, where he will be involved across a variety of our heavy lift and marine transportation projects.

Steven small, strategic project lead: Nuclear

Steven is a seasoned expert in the marine sector, with over 30 years of expereince, spanning ship management and maritime logistics, across a number of oil and gas and nuclear projects. Having completed 8 successful years as a Commerical Operator for OSG, Steven diversified into project management, working at a senior level for Osprey, Mammoet and NXGEN. Harnessing this experience, he now forms a key part of the Malin Abram team, as Strategic Project Lead: Nuclear.

john cunningham, project engineer

John joined Malin Abram in 2022 having graduated from the University of Aberdeen with a Master's in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. John has played a key role in multiple major projects including the Load Out and Float Off of HMS Glasgow, HMS Cardiff and HMS Venturer. He has also had the opportunity to work on various short sea shipment scopes, mooring analyses and lift planning.

tyler baines, graduate naval architect

Having secured a Bachelors in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Strathclyde University, Tyler joined Malin Abram in 2024, taking on the position of Graduate Naval Architect. Prior to joining Malin, Tyler successfully completed a 3-month internship in a shipbuilding yard in Spain, working across a range of roles within their production department. He has excellent project management skills, honed across a range of roles undertaken whilst at University, as well as a commitment to continuing professional development. This unwavering passion for furthering industry practice and processes, teamed with a thirst for innovative and sustainable solutions drives Tyler’s commitment to build his industry experience in his new role.

Ruaraidh Campbell, Naval Architect

Ruaraidh joined Malin Group in 2022, having graduated from The University of Strathclyde with a BEng (Hons) in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Since joining Malin in 2022, Ruaraidh has been involved in a variety of short sea shipping scopes, as well as being heavily involved in major transport ROFO operations of HMS Cardiff and HMS Venturer.

harry littlejohn, graduate naval architect

After securing a Bachelors degree in Naval Architecture with High Performance Marine Vehichles from the University of Strathclyde, Harry joined Malin Abram in 2025, taking on the position of Graduate Naval Architect. As part of this small, focused team, Harry plans on learning as much as possible from his talented team and to gain experience across a wide range of projects. So far he has been a part of the planning stage and execution of the roll out and float off, of the type 31 frigate, HMS Venturer and is eager for the next big project.

lia mitchell, graduate project manager

Lia joined the Malin Abram team in May 2023, with a range of customer relationship and project management skills. After graduating from the University of Aberdeen in 2021 with a degree in Business Management, she gained valuable experience managing maintenance teams across sites in Edinburgh and London, overseeing both proactive and reactive works while building strong client and contractor relationships. Over the past few years, Lia has been actively involved in various projects with Malin Abram, where she continues to build her skills in heavy lift operations and turnkey transportation. She is currently working towards becoming a project manager and looks forward to managing a range of turnkey projects as part of our Malin Abram team.

Michael Dearing, project engineer

Michael joins the Malin Abram team as a project engineer, bringing experience in ship construction, mechanical engineering, and project management. A graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he is also a registered Professional Engineer with PEGNL. Michael has managed multidisciplinary teams through all stages of complex marine projects, from design and fabrication to commissioning and delivery. He looks forward to applying his technical and leadership skills to support the successful delivery of complex marine projects with the Malin Abram team.

victoria wood, business development lead

Victoria joins Malin Abram with over 10 years’ experience in business development and marketing across global OEM’s and engineering services. Victoria brings with her expansive knowledge in strategic growth, client engagement and market expansion across engineering sectors, with a strong track record of building lasting partnerships and identifying new opportunities for growth and innovation, on a global scale.

KYLE MCLAUGHIN, DRAUGHTSPERSON

Kyle joined Malin Group in 2017, as a fabricator within our Malin Fabrication workshop. With over 12 years experience in the industry. He then attended Anniesland College where he trained in Mechanical Engineering which lead to him becoming a Draughtsperson within Malin Abram. His key roles include draughting stowage plans, ships drawings , structural and fabrication drawings. His expertise within this field of work allow him to carry out quality assurance checks on engineering drawings to ensure they are signed off to the safest and highest quality standard.

drew lithgow, graduate naval architect

Drew joined Malin Abram in 2023 having graduated with a Master’s in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at The University of Strathclyde. Before joining Drew completed two summer internships at the group contributing to both Structures and Naval Architecture teams within Malin Abram. Drew is delighted to return and is looking forward to the challenges ahead!

Scott Jackson, dRAUGHTSPERSON

Scott joined the Malin Group in 2007, bringing over 10 years experience, after having successfully completed an HNC in Engineering Practice, followed by a Modern Apprenticeship. Since this time, Scott has refined his draughtsman skills across a variety of scopes, with extensive experience across a range of software including AutoCAD LT, Rhino, Solidworks, Tekla Structures, Microsuite/Multisteel 2D & 3D, Radraft, Messer Griesheim, Optimation and Radan. Since joining the Group, Scott has worked on a number of iconic scopes including the Queen Elizabeth Aircraft carrier, Type 45 and more recently the Type 26.

bARRY lEITCH, dRAUGHTSPERSON

Barry comes to the Malin Group with over 15 years experience, having worked on projects across the oil & gas, water & industrial and renewable energy sectors. He has a diverse range of skills, spanning the design for manufacture, assembly, maintenance and testing of highly engineered bespoke equipment.

nick banks, contracts engineer

Nick is a Contracts Engineer for Malin Abram working as part of the tendering team. Having graduated with an Honours degree in Law, Nick started his career in the oil and gas industry with a subsea services provider in Aberdeen, working in the Asset Management Department for two and a half years. After a career break and relocation to Glasgow Nick joined Malin Abram in December 2018, where he has relished being involved with tendering various heavy lift and marine scopes.

Audrey joined the Malin Group as Office Manager in early 2021, having previously worked for over 30 years in an established economic development organisation. With a proven record of success in administration and office management, combined with her enviable experience and diverse range of skills, Audrey is well placed to manage the South Rotunda and support the two Malin Abram Directors.

laura henderson, Market Research and Marketing Executive

Laura joined Malin Group in 2019 with over 10 years of sales experience. Starting her career in Malin Abram as part of the Sales Team, her role has now evolved and grown into brand development & market intelligence for the whole group. Laura utilises her knowledge and skills to help colleagues identify new potential markets and opportunities, offering market intelligence, and supporting client building activities, from tailored marketing campaigns to bespoke events.
