We are delighted to have Gary Mitchelson join as our General Manager, as we look to continue our growth in the renewables and offshore markets.
With a presence in the marine industry stretching back over 100 years, Malin has become an increasingly important partner for Scotland’s growing renewables market, offering expertise in design and consultancy, transportation, equipment and fabrication.
Mitchelson brings over 40 years’ experience having worked across a variety of areas, from nuclear submarines, oil and gas and petrochemicals, to renewables and aerospace (including projects with the European Space agency).
He has honed his project management and leadership skills through a myriad of large quayside projects for the renewables and the offshore and subsea sectors, as well as through pipework systems for the mid and downstream sectors, predominantly for onshore storage sites – an area the Group’s John Tracey Specialist Welding team specialise in.
As General Manger, based at the organisations dedicated fabrication premises in Renfrew, he will be responsible for all operations at the facility, and will specifically oversee the groups Malin Newbuild business unit.
He explained: “I have always been aware of the Malin Group and have been impressed by their growing capabilities, as well as their commitment to innovation and expertise.
“The Malin name is synonymous with quality and the specialist services they offer are, I think, of particular value to the offshore and renewables sector – this was demonstrated recently at their successful series of Spotlight events, during Cop26. I am excited about demonstrating the extent of that expertise to a wider audience within the industry and the value it can add to their businesses.”
John MacSween, Malin Group Managing Director said: “As an organisation, we value innovation combined with expertise, reflected through a customer focused approach. Gary’s appointment will enable us to further grow our range of specialist services to deliver real benefit to our client base.
“Teamed with the Malin focus on developing relationships and strategic partnerships, I believe his appointment will cement the group’s presence as a key partner to the marine industry.”
