Although I only started at Malin 5 months ago, my role and day to day drumbeat has progressed massively in that time. When I first joined the company, 3 days of my working week were dedicated to ‘process improvement’ with the remainder at our fabrication site at Westway, helping with health and safety. With changing business needs, this moved to a sole focus on health and safety. My typical day to day varied, including carrying out H&S inspections, conducting investigations into any accidents and near misses which may have occurred, alongside working closely with ops management to continually drive corrective action and improvements. I also had the opportunity to build good relationships with staff, presenting H&S training and setting up the H&S committee.

With the business continuing to grow and adapt, whilst I still play a part in H&S, I am now mostly focused on business process improvements. This involves working with ‘process owners’ and building the bones of best practice into a fully fleshed procedure that can be used and followed by all across the Group. The aim is to drive ‘best practice;’ as an organisation, we always have an eye on being as efficient and aligned as possible. The processes and procedures under review vary massively and span across a multitude of different, specialist departments; this means my day to day role is really interesting, with the opportunity to learn new elements of the business every day! My typical day now consists of prioritising and planning, attending calls/meetings with different team members to gather information on current processes and utilising this information to create a polished procedure that can be effectively embedded across the organisation.
