Case Study
Turnkey Transportation for Karish North Project for TechnipFMC
OVERVIEW
Malin was contracted by TechnipFMC to provide transportation and lifting engineering for critical subsea equipment, destined for the Karish North development, a deepwater energy project in the Mediterranean led by Energean.
The cargo, which included a subsea manifold, four well jumper termination heads, a suction pile and containerised equipment, was transported from Avilés, Spain to Limassol, Cyprus aboard BBC Brisbane, a multipurpose vessel equipped with two 85Te cranes.
Malin’s scope covered the complete transportation engineering package, including sea-fastening design, vessel stowage and securing plans, lift engineering, rigging arrangements and marine superintendence for loading and discharge.
As several of the cargo items already had rigging components installed for their eventual offshore deployment, rather than introducing unnecessary additional equipment, Malin developed lifting interfaces that made use of these existing components, providing a practical and cost-effective solution.
Detailed lift planning was completed by one of Malin’s in-house Appointed Persons, with the vessel’s own cranes used for loading in Avilés, and discharge in Limassol. The team also coordinated the local resources and port services required at both ends of the voyage, acting as the single point of contact for TechnipFMC. This allowed the client to deliver the equipment to the quay in Avilés and receive it again in Limassol, while the team managed the engineering and operational interfaces in between.
The project brought together lifting engineering, sea-fastening, vessel stowage and marine operations, successfully delivering critical subsea infrastructure in line with the wider Karish North programme.
