SMTP Steps ahead with new project lead
The Malin Group has strengthened their commitment to the Scottish Technology Park (SMTP), with the appointment of infrastructure specialist, Alan Anderson as the new Project lead.
Located at Old Kilpatrick on the banks of the Clyde, the aim is for the SMTP to become a centre of excellence for marine technology, engineering and complex marine manufacturing.
When complete, the park is expected to include several large fabrication facilities, a deep-water jetty with a 1,100 tonne ship hoist, which would be the largest of its kind in Europe, as well as facilities for smaller scale suppliers and contractors.
Alan brings with him almost 40 years of experience in Civil Engineering projects in both the private and public sectors, latterly helping deliver major transport and development infrastructure projects such as the M74 Completion Project and the Glasgow Airport Investment Area project. His experience on major infrastructure projects spans from project inception through design and construction and onto post construction evaluation.
Now in post, Alan is leading on the delivery of the first phases of regeneration of the site, which includes targeted remediation of contaminated areas of the site and the design and construction of a new quayside. In additions to that, work is already under way on the design and construction of a new flood compensatory storage pond, which will be surrounded by a nature walkway for local residents. Completion of this storage pond will allow the start of land raising for the future development plots, which is being filled and raised with demolition materials from the local council’s prior offices. Without this reuse, the materials may instead have ended in landfill, but instead will form a firm and fitting foundation for the future build.
It is anticipated that completion of these infrastructure works, which are part funded by a £1.98M grant from the Scottish Government’s Clyde Mission initiative and £2M contribution from West Dunbartonshire Council’s Regeneration Fund, will help attract further investment and help to bring hundreds of new high-value jobs to the local area.
