Our team consists of a group of experienced, yet diversely skilled individuals, spanning different technical, non-technical, sectoral and personal backgrounds.
Gary Mitchelson, General Manager
Gary brings over 40 years of experience to the task, with 28 years at MD level. He boasts a diverse skills set, having worked across a variety of areas, from nuclear submarines, oil and gas and petrochemicals, to renewables and aerospace.
He has honed his project management and leadership skills through a myriad of large quayside projects for the renewables and the offshore and subsea sectors, as well as through pipework systems for the mid and downstream sectors, predominantly for onshore storage sites. His most recent project was the successful delivery of the construction of the world’s most powerful tidal turbine.
Scott Marshall, project Director
Scott joins the Malin group with over 12 years fabrication experience, with a diverse set of skill sets covering lean manufacturing, project managing and leadership, mixed with a business management degree. Prior to joining the Malin group, he worked on high profile and complex ship build projects on a world wide scale and has history of success in delivering high pressured projects. Scott has joined the Malin new Build team as Project director.
Ross Gemmell, Senior Project Manager
Ross brings a myriad of skills to the group, built over the last 13 years, across a range of industries including marine, nuclear, oil and gas, bridgeworks and architectural metalworks. Having previously worked as a draughtsman and project engineer, Ross now harnesses this range of skills for his current role as a senior project manager.
Stuart Archibald, Quality Manager
Stuart joins the Malin Group, bringing with him over 25 years’ experience as a Quality Manager on major projects within the oil and gas industry. Spanning projects in Europe, Africa, Russia and Asia Pacific regions, he has worked within multi-cultural EPC Contractors, as well as owner / operator organisations. Stuart’s background and extensive experience in engineering, supply chain, construction quality management and integrity assurance further strengthens our QHSE team competencies and capacity. As Quality Manager, Stuart leads the wider Malin Newbuild quality team, embedding a quality culture within the group and a focus on delivering products that are right first time, every time, to meet our clients exacting standards.
Andy Brown, Health, Safety and Facilities Manager
Andrew joined Malin in February 2021 with over 10 years’ QHSE experience within commercial ship, defence ships, and oil & gas industries. Andrew successfully managed QHSE on several large-scale projects including the British Aircraft Carriers, the Ethane Pipeline at Grangemouth, and vast amounts of LNG & LPG gas container ships in Asia and beyond. He maintains our Westway facilities but his focus is ensuring all workers work safe & get home safely and the company delivers a quality product to its customer.

Sandy Hamilton, General Supervisor
With over 40 years of experience spanning machining, oil and gas, construction, off highway
and marine engineering, Sandy has previously held a number of managerial and director level roles, before joining the Malin Group as Production Manager. With a solid health and safety background (IOSH), combined with an HNC in management, Sandy brings a diverse skill set to the role.
Alex McAndrew, Principal Project Manager
Alex is a seasoned marine and oil & gas specialist, having served his time as a Ship draughtsman, which earned him an HNC in Naval Architecture. He brings an enviable range of project management and construction skills, developed on a variety of projects across the world – from Azerbaijan, Brasil, Dubai, and China, to Europe, Malaysia, Singapore, and the USA. Since joining Malin, he has played a pivotal role in a number of large scale fabrication projects, including Hinkley Point C, the Well-safe guardian and AWS Waveswing.
Josh Scally, Project Engineer
Josh joins Malin Group having relocated from Western Australia where he worked on a variety of projects, primarily in the Mining & Minerals industry. In his time as a Project Engineer, he has developed a diverse range of skills spanning project management, fabrication, maintenance, supervision, and technical execution. Josh graduated Curtin University with a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and will be working with Malin Newbuild on a range of projects.
Mark Nicholl, Project Engineer
A seasoned engineer, with almost 15 years experience, Mark is a known figure in the oil and gas sector, having previously worked alongside companies such as Certas Energy, BP and Total, both in the UK and overseas. During this time he has developed a raft of skills, ranging from project management and design engineering, to specialisms in Health and Safety and Site Management, having gained a NEBOSH General certificate and certificate in Mechanical Engineering. An integral part of Malin Newbuild’s engineering team, Mark will be working on the Hinkley Isolation Cap project, one of our key projects with Balfour Beatty and Caley Ocean Systems.
