“Mastery of any field is a pleasure work with, in an engineering sense this is clear where seasoned professionals within a team can infer design or operational details from even the most basic drawing package or site photographs. The welding team of John Tracey Specialist Welding  (JTSW), or the welding gurus, as I refer to them, possess exactly this expertise, and I continue to be amazed with their practical insight into welding / fabrication package delivery at all project stages. My background as a naval architect and sales engineer did not arm me with a practical knowledge of welding operations, but hands on experience with a MAG welding set under the capable watch of JTSW supervisors certainly did – the scope for professional growth of any individual joining the JTSW team cannot be overstated.

In my time with the JTSW team, daily activities are best demonstrated by our response to an urgent requirement to provide stainless bracketry for a vibration monitoring system in the offshore sector. As is typical with JTSW scopes, a complete drawing package is provided by the client, to which the JTSW team can respond and advise upon in terms of weld procedures / production practicality – before sending a fabrication quotation (with assistance from the estimation team) and negotiating with the client to agree a price and delivery model that suits their needs. I remember this particular project fondly due to working closely (and around the clock) with the clients extremely capable engineering design team on tight delivery windows to meet offshore supply vessel schedules; the level of engineering precision in the project, down to consideration of the natural frequencies induced in the overall structure with each design revision was truly inspiring. The role of the BDM will be to formulate and execute strategies to develop client accounts and win such scopes; both responding to enquiries and actively seeking out new opportunities across a range of sectors. This includes site works, as well as workshop-based delivery (from gas pipeline installation to vessel deck preparation for the sea fastening of cargo).

In terms of management, JTSW is an exceptionally forward-thinking organisation, offering a working culture and team environment second to none in the UK fabrication space. Days spent with a welcoming and wildly talented but humble team were a joy that I will always look back on fondly. Part of the larger and diverse Malin Group, a career at JTSW in an exciting opportunity to join an organisation at the forefront of the UK’s engineering SME offering, delivering multi-million-pound contracts in a range of industries including, but not limited to, marine, defence, nuclear power, renewable energy and more.”
